Giveaway: Akron/Family @ The Loft

28 Mar

Akron/Family has the distinction of being the band that first took Warpaint on tour and as many of you who were lucky enough to catch that rather excellent show at the Granada last year know, A/F doesn’t just take any band on tour, they take bands who can help them turn the venue into a swirling tempest of dancing chaos. This bodes well for Thursday night’s opener (and 35C) performer Delicate Steve.

The most recent A/F offering, Akron/Family II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, continues the bands deconstruction of what “folk/experimentation” should be as they yet again push the boundaries on what you would expect from their earlier work. We consider this a good thing as it’s actually kind of fun to watch a band continually evolve.

This Thursday you will have a chance to see if anything I just typed is true as the band takes over the cozy confines of The Loft, and because we love you we’re giving away two pairs of tickets for the show. To win, send an email with “Akron/Family loves you” in the subject line and your name in the body (seriously … we only want your name) to giveaways@daybowbow.net by 11:59 p.m. We’ll notify winners tomorrow/Wednesday.

Akron/Family plays The Loft on Thursday, March 31 with the very danceable openers Delicate Steve. The show starts at 8:30 and tickets are $12 in advance and $14 the day of the show.

Giveaway: 1 Pair of tickets to see Frightened Rabbit @ The Loft

18 Oct

There really isn’t much out there that we love more than Frightened Rabbit, case in point we spent a rather chilly afternoon at Austin’s French Legation during SXSW waiting to hear snippets of the bands’ The Winter of Mixed Drinks and marvel at band member Grant Hutchison’s Lady GaGa shirt.

Luckily for you dear reader you won’t have to brave arctic temperatures to get a chance to watch some of the most melodic indie rock out today, all you have to do is send us an email telling us what Lemonheads song the band recently covered for the  AV Club, and you can have a pair of tickets for tomorrow nights show.

Just send an email withe the answer to giveaways@daybowbow.net by 11:59 p.m. tonight, and make sure you put “Scary Bunny” in the tittle.

Frightened Rabbit plays The Loft on tomorrow night  with Plants & Animals and  Bad Veins. Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 on the day of the show.

Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic‘s sophomore album, Pigeons, is being hailed as a contender for many end-of-the-year top 10 lists, and the band has found themselves as something of a hot ticket on their recent tour with Beach Fossils. Giveaway: Blindpilot and The Low Anthem at the Granada Theater

28 Oct

Tonight The Granada plays host to two excellent Americana acts with the excellent Low Anthem hitting the stage in support of headliners Blindpilot.

You all know how much those of us on this site love The Low Anthem, we’ve done an interview, mini album review, and pretty much praised them non stop since catching them at NX35 last year, and believe me their live act is something to catch in person.

Portland’s Blindpilot has been riding a wave of praise over their latest album 3 Rounds and a Sound, which has been called the perfect  folk record as done by the Shins. Not exactly sure what that means, but I dig the music.

Those of you wanting to catch the bands are in luck, thanks to the fine folks from The Granada we’re giving away a set of tickets to tonight’s show. You just have to email us at giveaways@daybowbow.net, and we will randomly select one winner from the list of emails we get. contest ends at 3.

Giveaway: Islands, Jemina Pearl and Toro Y Moi at RGRS

23 Oct

by Jesseca Bagherpour

My first encounter with Montreal’s Islands (headed by Nick Diamonds, of the now-defunct band The Unicorns) was at Hailey’s in 2006 when they were touring for their debut album, “Return to the Sea.”

Although I don’t remember a great deal about the show (blame a few years of drinking and mind-numbing college classes for that one), I do remember a great deal of theatrics and catchy songs and I counted it among my favorite shows of the year. They’ll be returning to Denton on Wednesday, this time to Rubber Gloves and from what I’ve heard of the new album, it should be a real treat.

Thanks to the fine folks from ANTI we’re giving away a set of tickets to Wednesday’s show. You just have to email us at giveaways@daybowbow.net, and we will randomly select one winner from the list of emails we get.

Congrats to our winner.
