This is Awesome: Who is Arcade Fire?

14 Feb

On the heels of last nights Grammy win for Best Album, Canada’s current toast of the music world were celebrated for their win by none other than Captain Outburst Kanye West himself, along with many other congratulatory tweets and blog post. Unfortunately not all mentions of the band were filled with praise as jilted GAGA and M&M fans took to twitter to voice their disgust for a band they’ve never even heard of. Luckily for us some bright person decided to catalogue these responses on tumblr and now we have the wonder that is Who is Arcade Fire? Check out some selections below.

This gentleman would like you to know that if you’ve never heard of them, they must suck.

Dog the Bounty Hunter!

This is….this is just fantastic.

Somewhere in The Woodlands a group of high school kids are planning on renaming their band The Suburbs as a way to capitalize on all this.

Of course this doesn’t hold a candle to the Beiber Nation’s outrage of Esparanza Spalding, but that’s a whole nother post.

Top 10 of 2010: Jaime’s list

9 Dec

Lord, it’s that time of year, where we all get together and argue constantly about what we liked, loved and kind of hated, and as usual all of our opinions are all over the place. So we’re each taking the time to make our own list of what we consider the top albums of the year. We hope you enjoy, agree, disagree, and most of all listen. Continue reading

Month of Lists: Top 7 Take Away Shows

1 Dec

Announcement: December is the month of lists!

You might be asking yourself, “What the hell?” right about now, and honestly our excuse isn’t that great, but we’ll give you one anyway.

Seems to be that people love lists, it’s one of their favorite things to skim, and one of the lazy writers favorite ways to churn out some material. So, in honor of the decade ending we’ve decided to do a list every day of this month. Now what will these consist of? Well, along with the usual “Best of the Decade” list, and “Best of the year” list, we’re going to provide you with list as esoteric as “Top 5 things I can’t believe I thought looked good this decade”, and “Top 6 songs I can’t believe they played in this random store”. So, enjoy the lists. Hopefully they help you pass the time during the slow holiday season.

Top 7 Take Away Shows

7. Fleet Foxes- Blue Ridge Mountains

No on has quite taken advantage of youtube’s ability to showcase idyllic slices of music and video quite like the guys from La Blogotheque. As they have taken touring bands through Paris on adventures of music, viewers have been captivated by what the cameras have captured. And nothing quite illustrates the earnestness of the series like the latest video, which sees the young men from Fleet Foxes plying their trade in the city of lights, including a section of them singing in the Grand Palais. My failed 33 1/3 pitch

20 Feb

Recently Continuum Books 33 1/3 series had open submissions to find writers for it’s next set of books. So although I was massively unprepared and without any real chance I threw my hat into the ring. Alas, I didn’t make the shortlist, but i figured I’d share this. Continue reading
