Track of 35 Conferette Weekend: Mavis Staples–

11 Mar

I meant to post this yesterday, but I was insanely tired the night before. I am more tired as I write this note, but I also got to see Mavis Staples perform this song live and it was AMAZING. So this serves as a tribute rather than a show preview.

I know we posted a Staple Singers cover by Flowers of God earlier in the week, but I am just so excited about her appearance at 35 Conferette tonight that I had to post another Staple Singers track. This one is Mavis doing a live performance of “I’ll Take You There” from Jools Holland’s 2005 Hootenany.

By the way, you can check out the interview I did with Mavis Staples on the 35 Conferette blog. She was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever interviewed. Oh, and Jaime gets to be her chauffeur (among doing a million other things). How lucky are we to be a part of this thing?

Anyway, enough gushing. Time to get to work. I hope to see a lot of you out there. Seriously, if you can afford even a one-day pass, I know this experience is going to be incredible. That’s why I decided to be a part of it.

We may post the stray post here and there this weekend, but we’ll probably be on hiatus. See you next week. Hugs and kisses!

(Bonus) Track of the Day: RTB2–Goon

9 Mar

What a handsome Denton duo.

I had the pleasure of listening to this new RTB2 song last week because of my involvement with 35 Conferette (said involvement being the reason Jaime and I haven’t exactly been churning out content here).

Though I didn’t get a chance to hear much of it, I can only assume Indie-Verse played this on their 35-Conferette-packed weekend because it is AWESOME. And the new album Ryan Thomas Becker and Grady Don Sandlin recorded last week with Stuart Sikes, the album that this very gem came from, is sure to be just as AWESOME.

Check it out for yourself:

I’m currently in the middle of 35-related (name dropping much?) work, so the only other thing I’m going to add is that I look forward to hearing this song live when they open for Dr. Dog, White Arrows and Telegraph Canyon on Friday. The action starts at 4 p.m.

Track of the Day: O’Death – Lowtide

3 Mar

This little slice of 35 Conferette is NY, NY’s O’death a band that manages to sound/be more southern then some Texas bands despite being located in a town we usually consider Yankeeville. I for one greatly enjoy their work and look forward to seeing them next Saturday night at the Labb with our own Danny Rush & the DD’s.
