Rundown: 8/2/10

2 Aug

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti / Puro Instinct @ Hailey’s

Listen, all the info you could ever want about Ariel Pink has been provided by other sites, and they have done one hell of a job doing so. I suggest you listen to them and make it a point to catch this show.

Miniature Tigers / The Spinto Band / MATAS @ The Loft

Hey, kids, be prepared to get over yourselves and love the new MATAS record when it hits. I heard the mixes recently and was blown away, as the band has taken their game up three or four levels to deliver one of the better releases coming out at the end of the year.

Dunes / True Widow / The Bizzaro Kids @ The Nightmare

The Bizzaro Kids’ blend of visuals and music is one of the most exciting things going on in the area that almost nobody knows about. Make it a point to catch these guys and rethink your view on what can be done with a three-piece band.

Giveaway: Here We Go Magic/Beach Fossils at The Loft

2 Aug

Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic‘s sophomore album, Pigeons, is being hailed as a contender for many end-of-the-year top 10 lists, and the band has found themselves as something of a hot ticket on their recent tour with Beach Fossils. Lucky for you, the generous folks at The Palladium/Loft have provided us with two pairs of tickets to give to two of our lucky readers. Just shoot an email with your name to giveaways@daybowbow.net. We’ll notify the winners tomorrow afternoon.

If you’re not fortunate enough to win tickets, they’re $10 for what promises to be a killer show. Hopefully we’ll see you there. And if you see us first, you should buy us drinks. Lots and lots of drinks.

Track of the Day: Broken Social Scene–Forced To Love (New Video!)

2 Aug

Jaime and I are big fans of Broken Social Scene and think they’re latest offering, Forgiveness Rock Record, is one of 2010’s best release thus far. So even though we already made “World Sick” a Track of the Day in February, posting the new video for their single “Forced To Love” was a no-brainer.
