Track of the Day: Anchor in the Valley- It Takes Three Words

(Note: Due to the sheer number of submissions we receive, there is no way we can give each and every album the attention (and word count) it deserves, but we can devote time to at least one song from each. So we started this feature to give worthy bands and their music a spot to shine. We hope this helps you discover new and exciting acts, and as always if you enjoy the music please make an attempt to support the artists by either attending a show or buying a record.)

I’ve always had a soft spot for for the ladies of country music, you have look no further then my random posting of a Dixie Chicks song a month ago, and well the fact that I named my car “Jolene” for proof, so when I received word that Anchor in the Valley had an album coming out on Friday I jumped at the chance to take a look at it.

Anchor in the Valley- It Takes Three Words

Verdict: When I previously wrote about Kelsey Waldon’s music I concentrated on the gospel and southern aspects of her sound, and though that remains in this new work, it somehow almost seems tropical. A 3 minute ballad about the actions of a man continually doing wrong, “It Takes Three Words” has an earthy tone to it, buffeted by a unrelenting steel guitar, with an acoustic guitar arrangement and backing vocals  that sound like they’re straight out of  Mancini soundtrack session. Waldon’s raw enthusiasm for her work really shines through on the track, and I for one look forward to seeing what the rest of the album has in store.
