Snap Shot: Daniel Folmer

2 Sep
(ed. All this week we’re doing band “Snap Shots” of the groups we have performing on Saturday, the 5th. This is one of those. Oh, and the photo below is not of Daniel Folmer, but it’s the one he wanted to use.)
I’m gonna be cliche and call Daniel Folmer a critical darling, it’s a well deserved label, we all seem to go insane for his mix of country-western institutionalization, fuzzed out rock, and witty insightful lyrics. His last album The Roaring Twenties had critics crawling over themselves to annotate him the next big thing.
Daniel and I recently “shot the shit” if you will, discussing everything from the Tyson documentary, to the glory of house shows. About midway through the conversation I decided it would be fun to have Daniel pick preseason football games using the Vegas lines. Take a look at what transpired after the jump.

I talk about Manned Missiles all the time, so I decided to let the guys tell you about themselves.

Hello, we’re Manned Missiles (AKA Manned Jizziles AKA Ol’ Dirty Missiles). We play melodic noise from our mouths and corresponding instruments. We’re recording our second attempt at an EP with Joel from Small Time Ruffians (shameless plug) very soon. It will be called Might as Well and we will performing it in its entirety at The Schoolhouse (shameless plug #2) this saturday for all you degenerates to enjoy and dance to. Goodnight.

Also, they told me the other night that the new music is “T-Rex dance music” which if it’s the band is awesome, if it’s the dinosaur it’s even better.

Recently there’s been a a bit of a growing backlash against acoustic/folk amongst some in the DDFW area, those people should stop reading right now. Leatherwood is composed of musicians from various walks, and various talents coming together to form a Voltron esq force of harmony.

Anyway I recently had a conversation with band member Petra Kelly about the state of the band, and such. Take a look after the jump. Continue reading
