Track of the Festival: The Flaming Lips – Do You Realize?? (Live at NX35 3-13-10)

Honestly, I don’t know what to say… well, actually it’s what can I say, or what should I say? Should I be using this as an avenue to let you all know about the endless hours of work that went into NX35? Should I be naming all the people I know for a fact that lost so many hours of their lives for the festival to happen, or should I take a moment to tell the stories I know about festival? To be truthful, I don’t want to go on and on about the work all of us here at DBB did for the fesival. That would be overstating our importance and it would be disrespectful to the 100′s of people who put so much on the line for the mere opportunity for any of what happend over the last four days to happen.

However, what I can do is post this track and let everyone relive that one magic moment when it rained confetti on us all as we hugged each other with tears in our eyes and sang along.

RE:NX35 wristbands

Because I’m sick and tired of answering the “Where do we get our wristband?” question, you get this.

“Registration for attendees, bands, press, VIPs, sponsors, venue staff, God and anyone else who wants a wristband is at 314 E. Hickory from 12-9p.m. TH – SU. Yes, this is the ONLY place to get a wristband, even if you pre-paid online. No, you cannot pick up wristbands for other people since we have to use a crimping tool to secure the wristband around your wrist. Now go read the FAQs like good little conferetters.”

The never-ending NX35 track-by-track: Week 1

So here’s the deal: we’ve been fairly light on the NX35 coverage due mainly to, well, some “involvement” with the festival. In an effort to provide some level of “countdown” coverage, we are going to go through 20 tracks from 20 bands at a time every Friday until the weekend of the conferette. (For those of you who are a little slow, there are three weeks left until NX35, which means we will be sharing 60 tracks with you.) Let’s hope this helps all of you have a better understanding of the music that is quickly approaching. Word just hit the NX35 blog that L.A. noise act HEALTH would be playing this year’s festival, along with 45 other new acts. Check after the jump for the list (highlights are *).

Breaking: NX35 lineup

On Sunday night the volunteers for the NX35 gathered at Dan’s Silverleaf to discuss logistics and scheduling. Shannon Goleman, director of volunteers for the conferette, and Chris Flemmons took the stage to give the group an overview of their paperwork and thank everyone involved in making the festival possible. He said volunteer retention was high and the fest wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for their hard work.

In particular, Flemmons thanked Matthew Gray and Daybowbow’s own Jaime-Paul Falcon and Benjamin Rodriguez for coordinating booking. “Most of the booking last year was done at the [NX35] office,” Flemmons said, ”and I made damn sure I didn’t have to do that job again.

Now for the exciting bit: the tentative NX35 lineup was also released. It’s an exciting combination of local and national acts (seriously, The Flaming Lips are the icing on the cake) and we’re proud to release it (and there’s more in the works, but we can’t share it just yet).

What follows is the partial NX35 lineup, that was confirmed on the Nx35 blog.

Breaking: Flaming Lips and Midlake to play NX35

We’re happy to confirm that the The Flaming Lips & Midlake will play a tandem show for free as part of the NX35 festival on Saturday, March 13th. Check the NX35 website tomorrow for full details.

Well kids its been an pretty damn great month so far in the DFW area what with NX35, diy X diy, SXSFLESH, and SXSW spill over all happening in the last two weeks. This week really isn’t much of a drop off, check it out under the cut.

Interview: The Low Anthem

During The Low Anthem‘s  performance Saturday night at banter I felt as if I was really on the ground floor of something big. After  self-releasing their third album Oh My God, Charlie Darwin back in September of 2008, the trio of Ben Knox Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, and Jocie Adams have found themselves on Rolling Stone’s Rock Daily blog, and appeared on NPR . During NX35, while many of the area writers managed to get interviews with various other artist, I was lucky enough to quickly sit down with the group.

NX35 Saturday Diary

I spent the bulk of last night running from venue to venue in Denton trying to make my NX35 wristband worth it’s weight in gold, I drank, I ate, I partied, I danced, I laughed, I made snarky comments to people. All in all  it was a great time, so great that I felt the need to share.

Hopefully this serves as a decent approximation of what all went down, and as a heads up I’m cribbing the A.V. Club’s festival diary style for this.
