Austin’s The Octopus Project are no strangers to performing in Dallas/Ft. Worth, and they always put on an entertaining show. But tomorrow night’s presentation of their new album, Hexadecagon, in its entirety at Southside Music Hall is sure to blow all of their past DFW performances out of the water.
It’s going to be a concert-in-the-round, with the audience surrounding the band (of course) and speakers and screens surrounding the audience. All that and Wiley Wiggins, too (playing video loops, not acting)!

Monday afternoon, on the drive back from Austin, I listened to a Freelance Whales session that was featured on World Cafe on KXT.
I had never listened to the band, although I knew there was recent buzz around them. But they were captivating, and I can only imagine what they’re like in person. It made me even more eager to post this giveaway for a pair of tickets to their show at The Loft on Friday.

Honestly, I don’t know a lot about We Are Scientists, except that they’re big in the UK and they sent me a Myspace request about five years ago. I thought their music was fun back then, and what I’ve heard of their recent album, Barbara, is equally good. Opening acts Twin Tigers–whom I interviewed last year during Fun Fun Fun Fest–and Rewards (aka Aaron Pfenning, formerly of Chairlift) should add a bit of diversity to the bill.

Earlier today, John Vanderslice hit up facebook and Twitter to spread the word about his newest EP, Green Grow the Rushes.
